Darboy Lesson1 Page4

Q: What were the effects of a ruined relationship with God?

Romans 5:12ff - Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned.
Matthew 22:37, 39 - Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind...Love your neighbor as yourself. (What God demands of us)
Matthew 5:19 - Out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. (What God gets from us)
Romans 3:23 - All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Romans 6:23 - The wages of sin is death.
Isaiah 59:2 - Your iniquities (sins) have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you.

A: As soon as they sinned, Adam and Eve showed the effects of sin in their lives. They were embarrassed to be naked. They blamed others for their failings. They hid from God. Their relationship with each other would be characterized by conflict and work became a burden.

Sin still affects the world today. Our failure to keep all of God’s commands means we are guilty and deserve punishment in hell. Our sin separates us from God. Separation from God for eternity is hell. Separation from God in this life leads to hatred, violence, envy, greed, addictions, etc.

Many of the problems we face in life are a direct result of our ruined relationship with God and our efforts to cope with this pain of separation and the guilt we feel because of our sins.
